Blood Angels vs IG

But I whooped up on them! Twice!

So...it was a monday, so combat patrol night:

Chaplian w/ Plasma Pistol and Jump Pack
Death Company w/ Jump Packs
Tac Squad w/ Bolters (x5)
Scout Squad w/ Snipers (x5)

His list included a buncha guys...a heavy weapons platform and some walker with a las gun thing on it.

I pinned his heavy weapons platform squad with my snipers from the very first turn.

My DC snuck around some cover to get into melee with his Storm troopers, and my Tac squad put his walker out when I got into CC with it. (it would of blown up first round if i had remembered to add the 1 for it being open topped).

So...long story short, all hisguys died, all my guys showed the prowess of the Blood Angels.

The next guy was more of the same...he didnt have a walker, but several guys with granades a bunch of...i dunno what they are called, troop guys. And I had the same list, we didnt get to finish so we had to add up VP, and i won by like...double. But in all fairness he didnt have all his guys with him so he wasnt fully prepared.

well you could have been considered power gaming bringing this list up against a guard. guard need large amounts of men to win their battles. this small slot will never win against 3+ power armour

It was probably the list he was playing...Guard can still work in lower points games, its just harder.

well small armies are not their best. the imperial guard uses vast amounts of infantry and hundreds of tanks to defeat their enemies. so when they are restricted to very few men and no tanks they are like a fish out of water in the middle of a dessert

As much as I love hearing about a Blood Angels win, I have to agree with previous statements. Armies like Guard and Tyranids don't work as well in smaller points games because they rely on numbers, whereas Space Marines excel because they are meant to fight as small squads of elite troops.

I will step in here for jus10. I know, if I am thinking correctly, both the guys who brought their games against him. And both of them are experienced at smaller points games. Besides, anyone who comes to Skirmish night at collins knows it's Combat Patrol/Kill Tem only that night, so I wouldn't chide him much. You can't yell at the guy in the parked car when a skateboarder runs into him, can you? (and no quips about illegal parking!)

Yeah, it was skirmish night, anybody who comes KNOWS that its combat patrol/kill team.

Its not fair to say i'm power gaming if my onorable blood angels are more powerful individually than the inferior IG.

Both guys still had swarms of guys, and one had a walker (it's got armor 10), so...that counts as a tank...sorta. If point for point my army is better then thats a IG problem.

Anyway, I'll be up there this sunday, and prolly monday too if anybody wants to redeem me exploiting the gigantic weaknesses of IG.

Erus thats why its called the chewbacca defense. instead of useing lawyer jargon to get a jury to do the right thing you simply bombard them with useless and nonsense information to persuade them to either give up or agree in some crazy way.


my post had just as much to do about anything as erus talking about a skate boarder hitting a parked car.


now point for point a space marine is better then a guardsmen. theres no arguing with that.

however when you try to declare a sentinel as a tank you are stepping over the line when even the most basic of space marine weapons can destroy it. then again when if you even hit one of his men with a bolter round its instant death as they dont have an armour save with out carapace (even then im not sure)

but as we have all said guard suck in small point games unless they are packing tons of conscripts and a commissar as far as i can tell.

meet him in a big game where he can bring in the big guns and most of the time the guard will wipe the floor with the astartes.


that is unless your using the space marine movie list.


also chaplains are just monsters in cc. probably not his best choice to let you get close

where is this place you're playing at? I think that my DA could teach the BA a thing or two...lol

I think a properly built IG list could mess this BA list up too...

I'm told that the Imperial Guard can field an infantry platoon with heavy weapons & an armored fist squad for about 300 points, then add another 100 points worth of heavy weapons and upgrades.

Could a list of like 15 marines really handle this? 6 missile launchers (even if they are BS 3 thats at least 2 dead marines a turn) multi laser, ect.

I think you'd have your work cut out for you, espeacially if he deployed correctly and won first turn.

Probably, but it is as you say: he'd have to get a good deployment, and first turn. Not all of which are always possible. I think on average, marines (BA especially because they can get that extra Black Rage movement) can get into combat quick enough and lay down enough fire of their own that they could handle thing pretty well. I'm not saying guard will always lose, but I think SM will do better on average in smaller games.

Its not fair to call the black rage extra movement, its not like fleet of foot, I dont get to choose when I can and cannot use it.

exploiting the weeknesses of IG while playing to my strengths is what tactics are all about. the guy DID have a commisar...


Commisar's have M Bison hats and power weapons right?

I agree...my chaplain is pretty sick in CC. Especially with the Letines of Hate they get.
