| Trooper ![]() | Hey Everyone, Well, Marduk 3521 and myself had been discussing to some length about a Chaos Versus Space marine campaign. We recently had hashed out the details and drew up the campaign board. As the story thus far goes, The Painlords (aka Emperor's Children 13th Grand Company) were stung by their recent defeat in a battle for St. Lisa Hive at the hands of the Sons Of Narcot (Dark Angels Succesor chapter) *See the corresponding battle report*. Having traced the chapter back to their homeworld, Alexander, The Lord Of Pain, vowed to assault the planet and cause as much havoc as possible. This was not for gain, only vengeance. No life shall be spared, and nothing will be left untouched. However, Alexander realised he needed a staging point for his assault. He chose the isolated Moon Base on Archea, the planet's 4th moon. with this he can begin his assault on the planet Narcot. SETUP & DEPLOYMENT Alright, when me and Marduk first set up this game, we wanted it to fit the story framework we were discussing, we decided this was a fight that the Sons of Narcot were meant to lose, as the Chaos forces couldn't really assault without a springboard. Therefore, my forces were given an extra 1,000 pts and Marduks forces could take no vehicles heavier than a dreadnought. However, in return, marduk could setup the terrain any way he wished, since it was his base after all. We also agreed that terrain pieces could be destroyed on any penetrating hit, with an armor value of 12. This was to better reflect breaching the "walls" of the perimeter. As for deployment zones, marduk could setup any way he wished within the "walls", with my forces being able to setup anywhere around the base, so long as I was outside of 12 ". We rolled off, and Marduk started to deploy first. He arrayed his forces fairly evenly along the North and South Walls, keeping a reserve in the center, which composed of a Dreadnought and Asslt Termie Squad. I, seeing this, settled on a two pronged approach. I deployed 3 Mechanized Noise Marines squads in the NE corner, and my Command Land Raider (w/ Lord and Chosen retinue) along with 2 Dreadnoughts in the SE Corner. The rest of my forces were in reserve, consisting of a 10 Man Raptor Squad, 10 man Termie Squad, 3 Obliterators, and, just for some spice, a Keeper Of Secrets. We rolled for first turn, which I won, and we were off!! ![]() Birds eye view of the base. ![]() Alexander's Land Raider with 2 dreadnoughts. ![]() Devastators prepare to meet the oncoming Noise Marines TURNS 1&2 On my first turn, I advanced my dreadnoughts forward, with one succumbing to a blood rage (damnit) in the SE. In the North, 2 of my Rhinos dismounted their compliment of Noise Marines, with the third manuevering around for a better position. In the ensuing round of shooting, my Land raider created a breach with its lascannons, destroying a portion of the south wall. Also, the 2 Squads of Noise marines unleashed a flurry of Sonic fire at the Devastators manning the North Wall, inflicting 6 casualties. On Marduks turn, he manuevered his Assault Marine squad near to one of my dreadnoughts, as well as moving his Dreadnought forwards to meet my southern forces. In his round of shooting, he managed to explode one of myd readnoughts with his dreadnought's TL Lascannons, as well as his Asslt marines attempting to shoot my other with plasma pistols, losing one to an exploding pistol and not having any effect on my dreadnought. In the North, marduks Devastators had better luck, inflicting 6 Casualties on my Noise marines with Plasma Cannons. In the Assault Phase, marduks asslt marines attempted a grenade attack on my dread, with no effects whilst my Dreadnought inflicted 3 Casualties in return for their foolishness. On turn 2, my dice really loved me, as I managed to bring in ALL my reserves. I concentrated them in the south, which I decided to make my main effort area. In the north, my 3rd Rhino dimsounted it's compliment of Noise Marines, and one aspiring champ was possesed by a Keeper of Secrets! JOY! Also, in the south, Alexander decided to get in the fight, with him and his chosen dismounting their Land raider. On my shooting, my Noise marines continued to punish the North Wall, and aided by the fire of the Havoc Launchers on the rhinos, caused a walloping 12 casulties! In the South, the Land Raider blasted the loyalist dreadnought, reducing it to a charred wreck. Also, the newly arrived reserves added their weight to the fight, inflicting 4 casuklties on the 2nd Devastator Squad in the south. In the assault phase, the hapless noise marines failed to destroy my dread, suffering another casulaty as a result. On Marduk's turn, he realised most of his positions on the walls were now untenable, and began falling his troops back into the interior of the base, whilst his Terminators began to advance through the cover to get to grips with the foe. In his shooting phase, he managed to inflict 2 more casulaties on my noise marines with the sole survivor of his Dev Squad, who was toting a Plas Cannon. In the assault, he finally managed to immobilize my Dread, but suffered 3 more casulaties in the process. Also, his Terminators charged out of the gate to gobble up 4 raptors. ![]() The Breach in the South ![]() Alexander prepares to sacrifice souls to Slaanesh\ TURNS 3&4 On my turn 3, I remounted my noise marines and moved them around the undefended east wall, their job in the north accomplished. I also advanced my Terminators towards his, knowing my higher initiative thanks to my Slaanesh icon would help. Since there was no viable shooting, I jumped straight to assault, bringing my termies in to help the beleaguered Raptors.Unfortunately, I failed to inflict any casulaties and lost 4 more raptors. On Marduk's turn 3, he reshuffled some forces around in his base, preparing to make his stand. In shooting, his sole survivor attempted to shoot a P cannon at a rhino, failing to damage it. In the assault, the loayalist and chaos Termies slugged it out, with my termies losing two and he losing one. On my turn 4, I dismounted my noise marines along the east wall while my Keeper of Secrest battered its way inside the base. Again, I jumped straight to the asslt, with my Chaos Termies trumping the loyalist terminators and destroying their squad. On Marduk's turn, he grouped his forces in the SW corner, attaching Grand Master Derek (ie, Azrael) to tactical squad 2 in preperation for his final stand. meanwhile, Librarian Ryaek attempted Mindworm on the Greater Demon, but failed, as did a shot from the lone P cannon on the North Wall. In the South, he attempted a lascannon shot at my termie squad, but their thick armor shrugged it off. TURNS 5&6 On Turn 5, my forces broke through the south wall, with my Termies, Lord, Chosen, and the remnants of my Raptor Squad breaking through to greet the valiant, if hopeless, defenders. In my shooting, my Noise Marines on the east wall took potshots and inflicted two casulaties on the remnants of Marduk's dev squad 2, whilst the Terminators finsihed two more off with their bolters. In the Assault, my termies gobbled up the remnants of the Devastators, whilst Alexander and his Chosen charged Derek's squad, with the unfortunate effect of his Blissgiver inflicting one wound on himself whilst Derek managed to kill 3 Chosen with wis Power Sword. In the North, Librarian Ryaek faced down the attack of the vile Keeper Of Secrets, and managed to banish it back to the warp with his Force Sword without sustaining a scratch! BRAVO! ![]() Chaos Forces break through ![]() The Sons Of Narcot prepare their final stand! ![]() Ryaek faces the Keeper of Secrets..... ![]() ....AND WINS!!! On My Turn 6, My forces rushed in, with my Termies eviscerating Tactical Squad two, and Derek himself falling to the Blissgiver of Alexander, whilst Librarian Ryaek felling the remainder of Alexander's retinue. However, the cause was lost, as Ryaek challenged Allexander to a duel, and after a valiant fight overwatched by the Chaos Terminators, Ryaek fell to Alexander's sword. The assault of Moon Base Archea was complete, and Alexander could begin his assault on Narcot. ![]() Derek's Stand ![]() The duel ![]() Alexander and Ryaek in single combat. ENDGAME This was a fun fight, with both myself and Marduk satisfied. I claimed victory, but I definately had to work for it. Bravo to Marduk for a masterful defense whilst outmanned and outgunned. As the story goes, Derek was evacuated by his troops, and Ryaek himself was carried out by the lone Plasma Cannon trooper. However, Alexander had only just begun. By Slaanesh, he would see Narcot burn! ![]() Ryaek is carried out... ![]() While Alexander claims the base for the Prince of Pleasure!!
