| Well i have a unit of halbediers, but i see them a little useless against enemies because they lack or good armor save and is only useful when charging to use the halberd +1. Do you think that Spearmen and Swordmen (with shields) are fair better? One attack in two ranks and the other have save 4+ ??? There is any hope for halberdiers in combat? or just useless? please help me find out

| halberdiers make great detachments... use 9 of them in a 3x3 formation for removing the enemy's rank bonus while also limiting the number of attacks you'll recive back. the +1S is decent against most infantry, but it's pointless against most heavy cavalry... the reason for the 3x3 formation is because it really screws over the cavalry charge! your opponent likely won't have a model that's able to attack your halberdiers unless they give-up an attack on your main block! against regular infantry, you'll only contact upto 3 enemies at most, so again, your halberdiers are only going to take 2-3 enemy attacks back if you fail to kill anything with them... as for parent units, the choice depends on the unit's role; a) defensive unit which is more likely to get charged: spearmen. b) offensive unit you want to try and charge with: swordsmen. cheers!

keep in mind too that the 3x3 also helps save on space in your deployment zone, which with the empire, can get pretty crowed as our troops are so cheap! cheers!

mainly though, i use a few detachments of halberdiers as they're supposed to be the staple weapon of the empire! too bad they make such terrible parent units. cheers!

| Your Local Ori Prior ![]() ![]() | I will heartily agree that halbadiers do make horrible parent units, but when used as a detachment, they tend to be much more useful. The best parent units that the empire has are the swordsmen and the spearmen, though Handgunners as parent units with free company or archer screens make them a very effective unit!

| Your Local Ori Prior ![]() ![]() | Let them charge so that I can stand and fire hand guns and flank charge them with free company who will be striking first!
