Default Fun Lizardman Army

Well folks, I may start a Lizardmen army, just for the hell of it. I want it to be high in magic, and just generally a laugh to play (definately not a power gamey list!)

So, my 2000pts list goes something like this:

Venerable Lord Kroak (He looks like fun, 'Ruination of Cites' looks immense, and yeah, I do know he'll make up 5/8 of my army...)

2 Skink Mages with extra levels

15 Temple Gaurd, shields, Standard Bearer, Musician, Veteran
15 Saurus, shields, Standard Bearer, Musician, Veteran
15 Saurus, shields, Standard Bearer, Musician, Vereran

The general plan is for the Temple Gaurd to form a unit with Kroak, while the Mages dot themselves in places good for casting spells...

The Saurus just plant themselves in a position that protects Kroak from any sneaky fast chargers, keeping him safe.

Then I blat everyone with as much magic as possible! 'Ruination of Cities', and if I can get 'Comet of Cassandora' along with all the other spells of D6 death should make sure that the army is taken apart in short order... I also have my Mages to add extra power dices, and cast their own spells...

So, I'd like any mentioning of whether this list will stand a chance at winning any games at all... I may make it anyway, but I'd like to see what you guys think...

From my experiences in 7th edition magic, this is a major risk you are running. One bad miscast and you have just lost the game. My major comment is that you should never run Kroak except in at least 3000 point games. You can however run a slann and make him a nasty 2nd or 3rd generation slann for some points quite a bit less than this. That also leaves you open for more saurus or skinks or something. 30 Saurus and 15 Temple Guard just arent going to cut it when facing opponents like Bretonnians and even Vampire counts with Dark Knights. I also have to say that the amount of magic is a bit much for 2k game and know that this list might be called cheese, and some opponents might love fighting you because of a "guaranteed" win. It is a major risk and its in the end up to you, but I personally would not play with this army, but I would love to play against it with my Empire!

See, miscasts aren't a problem with him, as he ignores them (Slann rule!). I was having a think about it, and actually, the amount of magic he is going to be throwing out will be incredible. Just for power dice I'll have:
6 from him
4 from my 2 Skinks
2 for Lizardmen as basic

Thats 12 power dice! If I get first turn, I think I'll simply advance my 3 Saurus units up, and have Kroak in a hiding place. Then using the line of sight from my Mages I can splat the main section of their army with 'Ruination of Cities', slapping them up something silly and making them have only half movement next turn (yay!). Then I simply use his other 6 spells to decimate them, either casting through my Skinks for ones with short range or from his hiding spot. I think it's an army which will either decimate the enemy in short order on some games, or die nastily on others.

All in all, it sort of fufills my wish for a crazy amount of magic and a small model count, so I think I may just do it for the hell of it.

Thanks for the advice, if anyone else wants to comment it would be great!

EDIT: Of course, I doubt this will go into 2000 points, and I may need to make a few changes (like dropping extra levels on my Mages).

I forgot that they dont care about miscasts! That is a fun rule! Anyways, remember that each character has his own power dice pool! SO at most your slann will have 8 power dice. Do not expect your magic to be super powerful because there are a lot of armies out there who are ready to counter it! Like I said, it is a risk!

Of course, silly of me to forget that my Slann can't steal dice of my poor Mages... oh well, I'll simply use them as level 1 Mages, for line of sight and so that he can cast his spells through them...

You are right though, there will be a few armies I may die rather nastily against! Though this is just for a fun army... I won't be using it for tournaments...

Ok, do you have a current tournament army? If so, could you post it up?

I have a fairly competitive Dwarf army (my other fantasy army) but nothing I'd really take to proper tournaments. For a competion or league at my local store I use it though...

I'm just hoping for a fun and different list for this army- I've always used masses of models and no magic before (in both 40k and Warhammer) so it will be nice to use a slightly more random force...
