| I figured I would start collecting an Ogre army mainly for fun. Can some one enlighten me on their basic tactics and playing strategy? |

Blog Entries: 10 | very if you build it right. Fantasy is not like 40k. Deployment is everything. you need to have a balanced force and yes HTH is much more prominent in Fantasy. These are the downsided. The upside is this: 1. it is much more dificult to win consistently. 2. it is a more rewarding game (tactically) 3. When you have a good group, it is hellaciously fun! if you let me know where you are starting i may be able to help. Step 1 get the army book. if you dont have it pm me.

Blog Entries: 5 | I watch the local fantasy games. Steve is right... Leadbelchers seem to be prominent in OK forces I see, and from what I have gleaned they work nicely. Steve and Stubber are our fantasy nuts, so look to them for the help.

Blog Entries: 5 | I've heard someone say fantasy was more $$ wise than 40k, and less conversion happy. Hence why i've stayed away from it. Though, if anything, I've seen ogre armies converted more often than anything else.

| I like leadbelchers for the most part but in my experience the people who have success with them use them wrong, because you have to roll to hit and people forget that. I've never had that much sucess with them but they might knock off a very important rank from an opposing unit and as a unit of two they make for good charge bait so that you can utilize one of the strongest rules they have the Gut Charge. Ogre Kingdoms have two points of view. One type of army is made of big mean units that can break anything, but you will have fewer units on the board. The other is the use of many small units and rely on a strategy of multiple chargers and support. I prefer the small unit idea. One it allows you to use all of the models in the Ogre Kingdom range. Two it is more flexible. Three it feels more strategic. Four you can utilize more Magic item/Big name combinations. In this style of army I use only units of 2-4 Ogres and my characters are always alone accomplishing a role that suits their equipment. The must use unit in my opinion are Yhetis absolute must.

Fear not Grix...you can make the lists and we'll find all the inadequacies in them. ![]() Do you have the latest edition fantasy rulebook? I really can't see why your fielding gnoblars in units of 23 and 24. Especially since you need 5 in a rank to get the bonus and gnoblars really need all the rank bonuses and stuff they can get to have any chance in a fight. EDIT: I'm moving this thread to the designated Ogre Kingdoms section. Last edited by Stubber; 10-08-2007 at 02:13 PM. | |
