The Inquisitor
Making a Trygon

Introduction

The Tyranid Trygon is not the largest tyranid, but it is still one extremely feared by all that oppose it. What advantage that would be lost in size, is more than countered with the creatures unholy speed. A Trygon can burrow through almost any material, carving out underground tunnels as they pass by. Their acute senses will detect enemy life-forms above, and then burrow upwards, exploding through the ground underneath its unsuspecting target with devastating power. Its huge claws ripping through men and machinery with ease. The creature is even powerful enough to smash through buildings and bunkers. Often the Trygon will be followed by other lesser creatures that have also used the tunnels.

When I first saw the Tyranid Trygon on the forge world site, I knew I wanted it. Unfortunately the price of Forgeworld models was always a factor that stopped me from obtaining a model. Eventually I gave in to my temptation and bought the model. It only took 9 days to arrive from when I ordered it.

When I received the plain brown cardboard box, I could not wait to open it. The parts came in a plastic bag, along with a Forgeworld catalogue and lots of bubble wrap. The first thing I noticed when I examined the parts was the amazing amount of detail. Every component was a piece of art.

The second thing I noticed it the weight of the components. The material that Forgeworld models are made out of is not plastic, but resin. This is used so that more pressure can be applied in the casting process, and hence more detail. The resin is considerably denser than the normal plastic, therefore becoming harder and brittle.

The third thing I noticed was the size of the model. The model is large, but defiantly not the largest. The pictures on the Forgeworld site can be deceiving. The entire model is 140mm in height (as stated on their website), but it does not give the impression of something enormous when you look at the components.

Below are all the parts that are provided:
